BBC Town Hall | United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80)

In September 2025, Nthanda Manduwi joined a high-profile BBC News Town Hall at the SDG Media Zone during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80), representing African youth in a global conversation on Youth, Jobs, and the Future of Work in the Age of AI.

Moderated by award-winning Kenyan journalist Waihiga Mwaura, the panel featured Ahunna Eziakonwa (United Nations Development Programme Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa), Dr. ’Bosun Tijani (Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy), and Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni (Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Digital Transition & Administrative Reform).

Nthanda brought a distinctive perspective shaped by her work in digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment. She underscored Africa’s need to move beyond inherited colonial systems, shift from consuming to creating AI, view job disruption as an opportunity to build anew, and ensure the continent has the energy and investment infrastructure to power its own AI future. Her contributions resonated widely, reinforcing her position as a leading African voice at the intersection of technology, development, and innovation.

The Town Hall aired internationally on BBC News and BBC Focus on Africa, amplifying Nthanda’s message to global audiences and spotlighting her mission to shape an inclusive, future-ready Africa.
